Two British men have been reported missing in Sweden, according to the Foreign Office.
This development follows the discovery of two bodies in a burned-out car in Malmö on Sunday afternoon, which Swedish police are investigating as a suspected double murder.
A Foreign Office spokesperson told the BBC, “We are supporting the families of two British men reported missing in Sweden and are in touch with the local authorities.”
Swedish police spokesman Patric Sors declined to confirm the identities of the two men amid local media reports suggesting they were British citizens. More forensic testing is scheduled for Wednesday morning to assist in the identification process.
Mr. Sors mentioned that a British man had rented the car, a black Danish-registered Toyota Rav 4, at an airport in Denmark just hours before the bodies were discovered in the Fosie industrial area of Malmö.
Police are urging anyone with information or observations regarding the car and the scene between 11:30 local time (10:30 BST) and 14:00 local time (13:00 BST) on Sunday to come forward.
This tragic incident has shocked the community, and authorities are working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
