Wells-next-the-Sea, Norfolk, recently hosted an extraordinary sight as more than 184 basset hounds and their enthusiastic owners gathered for the fifth annual “Basset Hound Beach Invasion.” Organized by Tracyann and Matthew Wright of Essex Basset Waddles, the event saw participants from across the UK, including as far afield as Scotland, Wales, and Teeside.
The event, which has grown significantly since its inception, began with a picturesque walk from Wells-next-the-Sea to Holkham Beach. Last year, 89 basset hounds participated, but this year the numbers more than doubled, with a staggering 184 hounds counted on Saturday alone.
The Wrights, along with their trio of hounds—Boomer, Moose, and Moleskin—led the walk, which has become a cherished annual tradition for basset hound lovers. In addition to the main event, three smaller walks were organized in Sandringham, Heacham, and Brancaster throughout the weekend.
Reflecting on the success of this year’s event, Tracyann Wright shared her hopes of surpassing 200 hounds for next year’s gathering. With such an enthusiastic turnout, the future of the Basset Hound Beach Invasion looks brighter than ever.
